week 4 r/d 5
Our text cites work from Cuban (1986), regarding the recurrent pattern of expectations (high) and outcomes (low). I think that this time, with the Internet and World Wide Web, it is different. The ease, and low cost, of putting information online and updating it, makes it an attractive offer for schools, businesses, government and the military. The ease, flexibility, variety, and lower costs of online classes make them an attractive option for many people. Obviously, the Internet and its web applications are being used for an awesome impact regarding all of us. Taking classes solely online, let alone earning your master’s degree, is something most of us would not have thought of doing ten years ago. The number of applications today within the Internet and web offers a wide variety of options for learning/accessing information. Just think of all of our assignments applied appropriately for our students.

I think you are completely right about the Internet! I remember my first online class where we actually sent in our work via snail mail. Our assignments were just listed on an online board and that was pretty much it. I still remember having to register by telephone during my undergraduate and it was a nightmare. Web registering is SOOOOOOO much easier. I think a lost a couple cordless phones in the process of old school registering.
I can't imagine not having the Internet in my classroom anymore. I often need supplemental materials because our textbooks don't cover everything. I can easily find very informative online tutorials meet our needs.
Sometimes I worry that the more time saving tools we invent the more we will be expected to do. I already feel like I have 100 things floating around me at any given moment. Doing more just does not seem possible, but if everyone else does more, you need to also just to keep up.
You forgot the best part about online classes......the gas you save! $4 a gallon! I think i am going to take online classes from now on. Another great thing about the internet, like Nicole said, is that our textbooks don't update themselves, therefore we need to go somewhere where we can get updated information for cheap or free, and the internet is usually the answer. Also, there are many web bases software out there that can easily be incorporated into a lesson or unit. Again, $4 a gallon = online classes
